ROAR (Rainbow Organizing and Response) is a volunteer organization, committed to advocacy and support for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals, communities and events.

We use creative strategies and the principles of non-engagement to provide a visible presence at public events, where we help create a welcoming and celebratory environment while shielding people from any hate present.

Our grassroots organizing extends beyond event-based work. We build community from which we strategize and mobilize to reduce fear, support visibility and amplify the needs and voices of marginalized people.

ROAR Founder/Director Ali Wicks-Lim

Ali Wicks-Lim is the Founder/ Director of R.O.A.R. (Rainbow Organizing And Response.) They've been advocating and organizing for as long as they can remember and have been involved in actions and movements related to LGBTQIA+ rights, reproductive freedom, immigration justice, racial justice, housing and healthcare. They also have a background in education and have taught children from pre-school through high school.  In the spring of 2025 they began working with volunteers to hold the line between love and hate by showing up with rainbow umbrellas to shield people from protestors harassing families at a drag story hour. In the years since they have worked with an ever-growing group of incredible people to build a model which advocates and amplifies, centers love and joy, and holds a line between love and hate at LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC events. Ali's commitment to this work comes from a core belief that visibility and community-building are essential tools for our survival, and that claiming, celebrating and protecting the space we occupy in this world is both a radical act of resistance, and how we take care of one another.
